Left El Questro today after a very exhausting couple of
nights. Some big walks but the most
sensational scenery ever. You could see
the photos, but as we all know, the photos only tell half the story. Finished the Gib River Road a few kilometres
from the entrance to El Qustro and got a couple of photos.
Turned right at the intersection and on to the Great
Northern Highway and in to Kununurra, built to service the Ord River Scheme
when Lake Argyle was formed by the damming of the Ord River. Kununurra is a purpose built town and because
of the irrigation and associated industry seems like a wealthy town which is
neat with lots of green footpaths and parks.
A few dodgy diamond shops but other than that a very pretty town. Called in to the art gallery where Aboriginal
painting takes pride of place and is so beautiful.
Arrived at Argyle and had lunch near the base of the Ord
River dam wall. Then booked into the
accommodation, had a swim in the pool, which is an infinity pool on the edge of
the cliff on Lake Argyle, you guessed it….plenty of photos.
We got a boat sunset boat trip on Lake Argyle, which holds
21 times the volume of Sydney Harbour and is the residence of 25,000 fresh
water crocodiles. The Lake is 70
kilometres long and 40 kilometres wide.
The water just disappears over the horizon. Just on sunset we stopped the boat and had a
swim and a drink and watched the sun go down.
A very special moment and you guessed it….lots of photos.
Tea at the pub tonight, a couple of drinks and after several
days camping out we have a real bedroom with an en suite, shame it’s only for 1
night, we could get used to this luxury!!!
Up early tomorrow to get to the Bungle Bungle Ranges.
How absolutely bloody gorgeous - just stop it! Soooo want to do this trip - you are so blessed to be doing this with with Luke and family. So special. Love D & J xxoo
ReplyDeleteLooks spectacular.
ReplyDeleteHi there have been a bit busy lately and haven't been on blog! Unforgivable I know but back now. Obviously even the 25,000 hungry crocodiles won't eat you Vernon , very unpalatable (if that's such a word!) The scenery looks amazing, I am very jealous. The colours of the landscapes are just beautiful! Keep up the good work and let Pam have her tuppence worth! Love T & G xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Deb, Tim and Trish, it is bloody gorgeous, just a shame we can't get photos to display just how beautiful it is. We have made some great memories along the way which we will have to recall through our photos. Pam will be given her two cents worth in the fullness of time! The crocodiles obviously know who they were dealing with when I jumped in to the water and didn't take me on!! Too tough for even the most ferocious croc!!! Love Pam and Vernon
